The Community of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFRs) has a charism for working with young people. The order has attracted a number of young men who have backgrounds in many different professions, which makes them appeal to the youth with whom they interact. These men, who live a life dedicated to obedience to God, poverty, and chastity, speak in a way that young people seem to readily identify with in an age in which they are taught that it is okay to behave however they like. The friars speak to young people about the struggles they experienced in their own lives, and they talk to them about the hope there is in living a life dedicated to Christ, no matter what vocation God might be calling them to.
The CFRs are also available to talk to Confirmation and RCIA classes and to host Confirmation retreats, as well as many other kinds of apostolic ministry.
The Pan de Vida Youth Retreat, modelled on the successful YOUTH 2000 Retreat (cf. youth2000ny.com), is centered on Jesus Christ truly present in the Holy Eucharist. The event is offered for those ages 13 to 30, and it takes place over the course of one weekend. The Pan de Vida event is filled with prayer, Eucharistic Adoration, Confession, music, and talks that center on the teachings of the Catholic Church in today’s world. Young people experience firsthand the joy of the Lord's Presence and learn about prayer, the call to holiness, the meaning of life, and God's Personal Love for them. Many conversions and vocations come from these retreats.
